This is more than an app or a tech company.
Founded here in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Holdmine is the realisation of an idea to make life easier for us all as we navigate those big life moments. It also is designed to help you free up brain-space to be really present in the “little” moments each day, and as we know, these are the ones that matters most.
Navigating the complexities for the first time.
This all came about from personal experience after Melissa Davies navigated the complex world of estate management for two of her dearly loved family members. These lessons along with her commercial experience, love of rich conversation, connection, technology and simplifying the complex has led her to build a product to help us all navigate these big, complex and at times heavy territories.

However, it still left her feeling overwhelmed and unprepared after the sudden passing of her father a few years ago. He was only 55 and it all happened in a matter of minutes. Amidst intense grief, she found herself navigating an extremely complicated situation, compounded by complex family dynamics. Planning a funeral in the midst of grief was followed by nearly two excruciating years unravelling her fathers’ interests and intentions.
It was a task that felt impossible at times and Melissa couldn’t help think of others attempting to navigate the same. She wondered how she might use her insight and digital skills to make it an easier experience for others and set to work creating Holdmine.
Holdmine is a product that has arguably the most important task in the world. It holds our intentions. And it can communicate them when we are not able to.
With Holdmine we can take comfort in knowing that when the time comes, our loved ones will have all they need, right at their fingertips.

Sometimes, it’s in our most trying times that we find inspiration. This was the case for Melissa Davies, Founder of Holdmine, who shared with us her devastating, but hopeful story at the M2 Summit on Thursday 20 May.
Melissa was flying high in the corporate world, until one phone changed everything. “It felt like my world stopped,” said Melissa, recalling the phone call from her brother where she received the heart-breaking news that her father, at just 55 years old, had passed from a sudden heart attack. She admitted the news affected her in ways she didn’t think possible; “Here I was thinking ‘I can do the hard things; stuff can come at me, and I’ve got this.’ Oh, how I did not have this.”
Her grief and stress were compounded by the unexpected revelation that she had been named executor of his estate. That is a whole new world of complexity and responsibility. What came next was what Davies described as “the hardest thing (she’d) ever had to deal with”.
